![]() ![]() What I like about this particular model compared with the original - besides my hair not getting caught between the plates - is the range of heat settings. The plastic surrounding the top and bottom of each plate is slightly raised, which helps prevent your hair from getting caught and making that awful snapping sound - something that occasionally happens with other irons, including that very first Chi. The one-inch gold ceramic plates glide over my hair smoothly and easily, leaving it shiny and straight with only two passes per section. When you first turn it on, it's automatically set to 370 degrees and takes only 30 seconds (yes, I timed it) to fully heat up. The Chi Ultra comes with five different heat settings ranging from 330 to 410 degrees Fahrenheit. So when I was asked to test and review the brand's most recent updated version, I was expecting it to be as good as - if not better than - the original.Īnd in this case, the sequel definitely lives up to the original. Oops.įor a whopping eight years, that Chi flatiron has rescued me from more bad hair days than I can count, stuck with me through awful haircuts, and didn't mind when I wanted to take a break…from heat styling, that is. Fast-forward eight years and my boyfriend and I had broken up, the flatiron had outlived the relationship, and come to think about it, I never did pay him back. I didn't have a debit card at the time, so my first boyfriend ordered the one-inch black ceramic model online. My first Chi straightener and I have been together since I was a senior in high school. Is it sad that one of my longest relationships has been with a hair straightener? I don’t think so, especially when it's been as awesome and loyal as mine.
